Corkagh Park, Clondalkin hosted a new urban outdoor market called the Urban Picnic for the first time last Saturday.
The market will take place each Saturday in Corkagh Park from 11am to 5pm, and promises to have something for everyone to enjoy.
Urban Picnic at Corkagh Park will have street food, crafts, and artisan produce with family entertainment planned as the weeks progress. These type of outdoor markets help promote the local community while enhancing the attraction of parks and tourism in the County.
Welcoming this new development, Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr Peter Kavanagh said: “This is great news for Corkagh Park, for Clondalkin, and is something the community has wanted for many years.
“I want to pay tribute to the councillors past and present who pushed for this market, and to the council officials who made it happen.
“The outdoor market promises to have hot food, coffee, sweets and treats, ice cream, artisan produce, crafts and more, as well as showcasing some up-and-coming food producers supported by the Local Enterprise Office South Dublin.
“The Council is trialing this new outdoor market in Clondalkin during September and October and I’d call on the local community to come out and support this worthwhile initiative. I know that I’ll be along at 11am on Saturday.”
Urban Picnic outdoor market in Corkagh Park, Clondalkin, is being run on a trial basis between September and October, 2021.
The market will operate in the designated area in the vicinity of the St. John’s Road area of the park on each Saturday commencing 4th September, 2021 and ending in October 2021.
The outdoor market in Corkagh Park will promote local enterprise and develop a sense of community around the market by utilising where possible local producers, crafts people, and start-ups. This will include Local Enterprise Office South Dublin (LEO) start-up clients.
“LEO South Dublin is delighted with the opportunity to collaborate on this wonderful initiative by South Dublin County Council and the County Promotion Unit. Urban Picnic Market is a fantastic opportunity for our exciting new local food producers to showcase their new foods and who will furthermore benefit from the feedback from their local consumers attending the market. The LEO is a proud supporter of the growing number of highly innovative and diverse local food businesses in South Dublin and initiatives like Urban Picnic is a really exciting event for Clondalkin and wider local community”, said Tom Rooney, Head of Enterprise at Local Enterprise Office South Dublin.
Urban Picnic will be located near the playground in Corkagh park, visible from the car park at St. Jon’s Entrance. There will be directional posters in place.
