Dublin Rathdown Sinn Féin representative Shaun Tracey laid a wreath at the Constance Markievicz monument in Sandyford on Saturday to mark the 105th anniversary of the 1916 Rising.

Mr Tracey was joined by Dundrum Sinn Féin rep Sorcha Nic Cormaic and Stillorgan Sinn Féin representative Gráinne Ferris.

Speaking at the event he said;

“We’re very proud of the local area’s connection with Constance Markievicz.

“Just down the road here she had her summer cottage were she spent many summers and across the road we have Fitzsimons Wood where Markievicz trained Na Fianna Éireann.

“Unfortunately the cottage is in a state of disrepair and Sinn Féin has been campaigning for it to be put on the list of protected structures and declared a national monument.

“We are laying the wreath here today to remember Constance Markievicz and all those who went out on Easter Monday morning 105 years ago today to proclaim the republic.”
